Preferably we would be doing a lot more traveling at the moment, I mean who wouldn’t right?! Sometimes things just don’t quite work out the way you planned though. This is exactly what happened to us this year and I’m sure we’re not the only ones this happens to. We’ve found 5 perfect ways to satisfy your wanderlust when you’re at home that we would love to share with you. Hopefully you find these just as helpful as we do.
Explore your hometown
What better place to start than your own hometown? We live in a small town in the Netherlands. It seemed logical to start right here and explore what exactly our hometown has to offer. We started walking around the neighborhoods, exploring some of the more touristy spots, had a picnic in one of the many beautiful parks and had some great local food. Now you may have done some of these things before but try and look at your town as if you’re there for the first time. The great thing about this is that it’s a lot of fun and it doesn’t matter how big or small your town is.
Put on those tourist glasses
Yes, you are at home for the time being but that doesn’t mean you have to be bored. Put on those tourist glasses and look at your country the way a tourist would. Where would you want to go, what do you want to see and do? Go shopping in a city you haven’t been to before. Visit the beach. Go for hikes. Have dinner at a new restaurant. Take a day trip within your country or region or even go for a long weekend and spend the night. Playing tourist will definitely help to satisfy that wanderlust. Maybe even pretend you’re from out of the country to add some extra fun. I promise there is plenty to do at home, you might just have to play the tourist to think of them!
Visit national parks in your home country
This is one of our favorite ways to satisfy our wanderlust when we’re at home. We’re outdoorsy people and love spending time in nature and going for hikes. But even if you’re not very outdoorsy this a great way to forget where you are and just enjoy the moment. National parks really show off a country’s beauty and often diverse landscapes. Whether you’re going for a big hike, a casual stroll or just to relax and have a picnic, national parks are a great way to satisfy that wanderlust.
Get inspired by your past travels
Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or an occasional vacation traveler, revisiting your previous travels is a great way to get inspiration for new travels. When we feel like we aren’t traveling as much as we’d like, we look back at our amazing pictures and the beautiful memories we’ve made. This makes us realize we’ve already seen some wicked sights and experienced amazing things, therefore making us feel really grateful. Get inspired and let this inspiration help you plan your next travels.
Where to next?
If things like money and time were no factor, where would you go? We love thinking about all the places we still want to visit. Even though you might not have actual plans, it forces you to think outside of the box. That means you research places you didn’t think of before and because of that you’ll be surprised about the things you learn. Another thing we love about this little game is that it promotes dreaming and believing in yourself. Okay you may not have the money to book that dream trip tomorrow. But who says that will never change? If anything’s certain, is that there are no certainties in life. So plan that dream trip, believe you will do it, get excited! Now sit back and relax until everything falls into place. This always satisfies my wanderlust and leaves me feeling so positive, give it a try!
Well there you have it, 5 ways to satisfy your wanderlust at home. Now keep in mind that these are things that work for us. I’m sure there are way more things that will do the job just as well. What do you do to satisfy your wanderlust when you’re at home? We’d love to hear in the comments below!
